SURYA SELECTED AS GEORGIA FAST 40 COMPANY FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR 5.18.16
Surya has been named for the second year in a row to the Georgia Fast 40 by ACG Atlanta, the Atlanta Chapter of The Association for Corporate Growth® (ACG), a global professional organization focused on middle-market growth, mergers and acquisitions, and private investment.
Each year, ACG Atlanta recognizes 40 Georgia-based middle-market companies that have realized the fastest revenue and employment growth during the prior three years. Rankings are objectively based on weighted three-year average increases in revenue and employment.
As a direct result of its rapid revenue growth and addition of new personnel, Surya recently opened a new one-million-square-foot corporate headquarters and distribution center in Cartersville, Ga., north of Atlanta. The state-of-the-art facility and logistics system will promote increased operational efficiencies while also providing ample space for expansion. The company plans to bring an estimated 200 new jobs to the North Georgia area during the next several years as it continues to grow its product offering and move into additional home accessory categories.
“We have come such a long way during our 40 years in the home furnishings business, and this valuable recognition reaffirms that we are doing the right things,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Our new location will position us with a strong infrastructure to scale our growth and give our customers even more great products and sales support tools to help them build a successful home accessories business. Closer proximity to Atlanta will also make it easier to attract top notch talent. We are honored that ACG Atlanta has selected us for the Georgia Fast 40 for a second year.”
Last fall, Surya was named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing privately-held companies for the fifth consecutive year, earning a spot on the Inc. 5000 Honor Roll.
“Surya’s sustained double-digit growth is a testament to the company’s solid business model, commitment to innovation and passionate focus on helping its customers succeed,” said ACG Atlanta President Denise Boyd. “The Surya team’s ability to move swiftly and execute on its vision continues to deliver great value to the home furnishings industry.”
To be eligible for the Georgia Fast 40, companies must be for profit and headquartered in Georgia; have recent year-end revenues ranging from $15 million to $500 million; and demonstrate three years of verifiable revenue and employment growth.

SURYA HOLDS RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR NEW ONE-MILLION-SQUARE-FOOT HEADQUARTERS 5.10.16
Surya celebrated the official opening of its new corporate office space and distribution center with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house held onsite on Monday, May 9. More than 150 guests attended the event, which featured comments from Commissioner Chris Carr of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and Commissioner Steve Taylor of Bartow County, followed by a special address from guest of honor, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
The new facility, located north of Atlanta in Cartersville, Ga., includes 81,000 square feet of office space and 955,000 square feet of warehouse space, providing the home accessories company with more than double the warehouse capacity of its Calhoun, Ga. location. Surya already has one of the largest inventories and fastest fulfillment rates in the home decor industry, with most in-stock products shipping within 48 hours. The expansion and new state-of-the-art logistics center will enable the company to further increase operational efficiencies as it serves its growing base of more than 15,000 retailer and designer customers.
“When I joined my family’s business in 2004, I had a lot of dreams and ambition,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Not only did I want to give small, independent furniture retailers a way to enter the home accessories business, but I also wanted to create jobs and make a lasting positive impact on the community, both locally and globally. When I reflect on how far we’ve come in the 40 years since my father, Surya Tiwari, founded Surya to create a better life for families in rural India, I am humbled and deeply grateful. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to start the next phase of this amazing journey.”
Surya has grown organically from $2.7M in sales in 2004 to $111M in 2015 and has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing privately held companies for five consecutive years, earning a spot on the prestigious Inc. 5000 Honor Roll. As part of its expansion, Surya plans to add an estimated 200 new jobs within the next few years.
“North Georgia is a great place to do business,” said Chris Carr, commissioner, Georgia Department of Economic Development. “The area boasts a pro-business environment, top-notch talent and a highly-connected logistics network—among other assets. Companies who come here are successful and continue to grow. We congratulate Satya Tiwari and the entire Surya team on this important milestone in the company’s evolution, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow here.”
Surya’s facility in Calhoun, Ga. will continue to be used for production of the company’s Made to Order rugs and for warehousing a portion of its more than 50,000 rugs and home accessories.

SURYA’S JOHN HASTE RECOGNIZED AS CITY OF HOPE’S 2016 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 5.04.16
John Haste, Surya’s Senior Vice President of Business Development, was named City of Hope’s Volunteer of the Year for his leadership in creating the inaugural “Furnishing Hope – A Day of Giving.”
The event, which made its debut during the January 2016 Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, raised more than $27K to benefit City of Hope’s research facility and hospital and its work to treat and cure cancer and diabetes. A number of home furnishing vendors, identified by “We Are a Proud Supporter of Furnishing Hope” signage, made a donation – or pledged to donate a portion of market sales completed on the day of giving – to the California-based organization.
“We are proud to bestow the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award to John Haste,” said Brittany De La Torre, director of corporate philanthropy, City of Hope. “As a board member, John spearheaded the first ever ‘day of giving’, engaging many new supporters from the decor and accessories segment of the industry, and raising critical funds and awareness for City of Hope’s cancer and diabetes research.”
Surya has a longstanding history of supporting organizations in the communities in which it operates, including
Akshaya Patra, an award-winning school lunch program that provides daily, hot nutritious meals to children in rural northern India where Surya’s large artisan community resides. In 2012, Surya President Satya Tiwari launched the annual ‘Miles for Meals’ campaign, which has raised $215K to date to feed 10,000 children in India. He joined the Akshaya Patra USA advisory board in 2015, with a focus on further expanding the reach of the program.
Surya also supports U.S.-based organizations such as Pain Free Patriots, an initiative that provides military veterans with treatment for their chronic pain, the March of Dimes and several community-based organizations, including Habitat for Humanity.
“I am very humbled to have been selected as City of Hope’s Volunteer of the Year,” said John M. Haste, senior vice president of business development, Surya, and member of the International Home Furnishings Industry Board of Directors for City of Hope. “The work that I do for City of Hope pales in comparison to the incredible breakthroughs taking place within the organization’s research group to find cures for life-threatening conditions such as cancer and diabetes. I am honored to be a part of this important cause, and to work for a company like Surya that is truly committed to giving back.”
Haste was recognized at City of Hope’s annual Spirit of Life® Award dinner, which was held in Greensboro, N.C. on April 17 to honor furniture industry leaders for outstanding personal, professional and philanthropic achievements.
